Stout vs. Porter
While they’re both dark and delicious, porters arrived on the brew scene before stouts. Invented as a fortifying drink for the rough-and-tumble working class of London, its popularity spread, and soon malt-driven porter was the beer of choice in the British Isles.
After upping the alcohol percentage, a “stout porter” was born, and eventually, this beer felt confident enough to drop its last name. Centuries later, craft brewers still push the boundaries of each style — and we can’t pick a side!
